First Encounters

We’d been waiting for it ever so excitedly. When it was May 2017 and the former 6HW had returned from their trip to Romania, we picked up quite some information about their experience. That had already thrilled us slightly: that would be us one day. However, we just kept it in the back of our heads. It became that faint feeling of looking forward to something so far away.
Before we even had time to realise it, it was already September. We’d only been back in school for a couple weeks, and we were already overthrown by the entire project. The Romanians would come to Belgium! After quite some preparation and heaps of excitement, they finally arrived.

We headed to the station, slightly nervous but definitely enthralled by the idea of meeting our new temporary guests. And then we met. It was… awkward. That’s undeniable. Our first lunch together was rather uncomfortable. What do we say? What do we talk about? Do they like it here? Just heaps of uncertainty. All we could tell was that it was definitely a peculiar group of people, each in their own special ways. However, as the day actually went by and we played some introductory games, we soon realised that it was going to be a very intriguing week.
